Atlas 40′ Reefer – St. Louis Refrigerator Car Company

The Atlas Model Railroad Company has announced another release of interest to Frisco modelers; two 40′ reefer cars bearing the roadname St. Louis Refrigerator Car Company.

Wikipedia offers a small article which tells us that these cars usually contained beer. Their service around St. Louis will cause them to be of interest to many Frisco modelers.

Atlas promotional language states; This highly detailed model is based on the 40′ wood refrigerator cars built by Pullman for the Northern Refrigerator Car Co. in 1930. With its rooftop ice hatches, USRA-style fish belly underframe and vertical brake shaft, it is representative of the thousands of similar cars that were built during the “Billboard” era of American railroads.

The models feature:

  • Accurate painting and printing including door hinges, ladders, grab irons and end straps
  • Opening roof hatches
  • Realistic handle and latch detail
  • Wood grain finish detail on carbody
  • Ready-to-run
  • 40-ton friction bearing trucks with AccuMate® couplers

The item road numbers are 50 001 270/4123 and 50 001 271/4136. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for each car is $24.95 and the products are scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2013.
